I’m still not sure how I feel about the gaming year 2017. I was prepared to write a full speech about how much bullshit and disappointment we had to face. But when I drew the line and looked past the marketing schemes, the lies and all the controversies, 2017 wasn’t all that bad.
In retrospective, 2017 clearly wasn’t a bad year. The action genre was strongly represented with amazing indie title like Cuphead and Hollow Knight, while Resident Evil 7 reminded us that there is still hope in AAA gaming. The blend of adventure and storytelling brought us the fantastic experience that was What Remain of Edith Finch. […]
I wouldn’t say that 2017 was a year of technical innovation, but it was a splendid display of artistic direction. Resident Evil 7 has delivered some of the most deranged characters in video game history. Cuphead has brought the 40s cartoons atmosphere to our screens. Hellblade has managed to push the boundaries of motion capture […]
There was thin competition for the online scene of 2017. I’m not sure if this is due to the small number of releases or that every new game was just overshadowed by the insane popularity of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds.
I have to say that 2017 wasn’t a bad year for strategy games despite the fact that the highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III didn’t connect at all with its audience. AMPLITUDE Studios made a comeback with Endless Space 2 and while the launch was a bit rocky, the developer’s dedication proved that […]
The year 2016 has some nice memories, DOOM and Titanfall 2 provided some of the best singleplayer campaigns we had seen in years having spectacular but opposite approaches. However, 2017 didn’t live up to the expectations set by the previous year. Prey did experiment with some interesting gameplay mechanics inspired by System Shock and Deus […]
Postpones and underwhelming games have ruined another potentially great year for the RPG genre. As expected, Torment: Tides of Numenera didn’t really rise up at a level worthy of the spiritual successor of Planescape: Torment with a writing way too pretentious and an underwhelming gameplay. NieR: Automata was quite a surprise, not an RPG in […]
This was a year rich in adventure games; however, I wasn’t able to enjoy some of the most anticipated titles of the genre due to various reasons. I did get to play two of the most highly acclaimed adventure games of this year and I was definitely impressed by their unique execution. Hellblade’s narrative was […]
I’m kicking off this series of articles with the best represented genre in 2017, action games, which indie developers knocked out of the park. Back in January when Resident Evil 7 surprised me with its excellent horror execution combined with some good old end game action I was hopeful, but I didn’t expect action games […]
Here I am at the last article of this year choosing the best PC video game of 2016. Dark Souls III, Inside, DOOM, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, Titanfall 2 or Hitman are all great games competing for this title and I had a blast playing all of them. My choice for game of […]
