I’m still not sure how I feel about the gaming year 2017. I was prepared to write a full speech about how much bullshit and disappointment we had to face. But when I drew the line and looked past the marketing schemes, the lies and all the controversies, 2017 wasn’t all that bad. For the first time in years, we, as a community, are fighting back against the shady business models that plague our video games. And for the time, legal representatives from all over the globe are taking notice of our problems, putting pressure on publishers that are hell-bent on enticing their consumers with despicable practices. These two count as big wins in my book and make me at least somewhat hopeful about the future, a future where we might be able to tear down pay to win mechanics and the gambling in video games.
With all the drama that has been going on in the past few months, I didn’t even realize how many good games I actually played. The year 2017 might not have turned as exciting as the start of the year prognosis was showing, but the amount of quality games certainly exceeded my expectations. I did get to play a lot of the games of 2017 and now I’m going to sit down, look back and judge them as objectively as possible but based mostly on my experiences.
